When I first arrived in Ambleside (sometime in the last Century!) I was appalled to find a food desert….
Where could I buy a selection of cheeses other than the ubiquitous orange cheddar, fresh pasta, home cooked pies, hams, delicious biscuits and so much more?! So whilst pining for the Delis in London and New York I really did not want to return to the smog… (aside from the fact that my Husband is Cumbrian!!)

So the only solution was to do something about it!! (I’m delighted to report that this is no longer the case and we really do know a thing or two North of Watford …)

Lucy’s was born through a love of food and dedication to both the local and visitor population of Ambleside and its surrounding area. In 1989 the shop Lucy’s Specialist Grocers was opened – this was originally a bit of everything, but now specialises much more in food that is locally produced, hard to obtain elsewhere, or simply made in our own kitchens (Janet’s scones are a must – and as for the Pecan Pie… the Gluten free Chocolate Almond Torte… well!)
