Cartmel Steeplechases - Race Meetings

Cartmel Steeplechases is based in the south of the Lake District, within the pretty village of Cartmel. Horse racing has taken part on the famous racecourse since 1845. Race days at Cartmel are still the biggest gatherings of the whole National Hunt season.

Gummers How Fell Race
June 2007 - first race starts 5.45pm
From directly at Lakeside, Newby Bridge, this historic race involves athletes running 600 metres through a field and along a road to the beach in front of the hotel. They then leap into a boat and row across Lake Windermere, before running up and down Gummers How (1,000ft) to return to the boats for the row back to the hotel where they finish on the lawns.
The current record is held by Mark Croasdale, in 25 mins 48 seconds.
North West Food Lovers Festival
